A palavra “Schoenstatt” significa belo (schön) lugar (statt).
The Spirituality
As a unique spirituality in the Church, Schoenstatt has contributed to the holiness of men and women since 1914. Its characteristic features have proven effective for living the faith today. Schoenstatt's covenant spirituality is based on a sound personal relationship with God, Mary, and fellow human beings. Through instrument spirituality, Christian discipleship becomes tangible, in reaching out and encountering others.
Through a spirituality of everyday sanctity our Catholic faith transforms everyday life through the virtues of faith, hope, and love.
The Founder
Father Joseph Kentenich (1885-1968) was born in Gymnich, Germany on November 16, 1885 and became a Pallottine priest in 1910. He was a gifted educator who developed a bond of trust with his students.
Through it, he conveyed his deep love for Mary to them and led them to fervent love of God. Discerning God's will in the signs of the time, Father Kentenich and his students entered into a covenant of love with Mary in the Original Shrine. That moment was the beginning and lasting foundation of the Schoenstatt Movement.
On September 15, 1968, the feast of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady, immediately after celebrating holy Mass, he was called home to eternity. At his request, the words Dilexit Ecclesiam (He loved the Church) were inscribed on his tomb.
Schoenstatt- a way of life
The Schoenstatt Movement includes priests, consecrated and single men and women, couples, mothers, university students, and youth. Members and pilgrims of all ages are given the possibility of participating in discussion groups that meet regularly, days of reflection, camps and family activities, retreats, and pilgrimages.
Through Schoenstatt's shrines and centers, many receive inspiration, formation, and an experience of the Church as a family of God.
Schoenstatt provides a strong network of support and spiritual nourishment for Christian families and individuals who seek to place their faith at the heart of daily life.
For many of its members, Schoenstatt is a way of life that enables them to live their calling to holiness, Christ.
